Episode 50: Holiday Intention Setting For Expats

podcast survey

And now:

Let’s set intentions for the holidays!

Are you able to go home for the winter holidays? Or will you have family and friends over?

The holidays are a season of joy, laughter, family and festivities…. or so we wish! They’re also a season of high expectations that can lead to disappointments; of potential conflict with loved ones and feeling the pressure to live up to other people’s standards. This holds true especially for us expats, who go long periods of time without seeing our extended families.

So what can be done to avoid disappointment? After all, if expat life and the pandemic have taught us anything, it’s that social contact, friendships and family are most important!

By setting intentions, we can make sure to be prepared for any scenario we may encounter AND we can create the best conditions for things to turn out as holly jolly as we hope for them to be.

In this episode

I’ll introduce 4 Intentions that you can set, in order to:

  • stop worrying about what others may think of you, your lifestyle and your choices
  • contribute to that bright, holiday spirit
  • handle polarization, differences and conflict
  • accept others for who they are and will likely continue to be

Keep your eyes peeled for additional content around this topic to be shared on my social media platforms:

What To Do In Your Lowest Moments Abroad

We’ve all been there right? Those moments of utter frustration and weariness.

They may be related to culture clash, to paperwork and administrative hassles, or to an incidence in your personal or professional life…

The bottomline is: going through turbulences abroad often makes dealing with them a little harder – because we’re already outside our comfort zone or at disadvantage (due to being a foreigner.)

And that can make us feel very alone and powerless.

In this episode, I share several, original and unique ideas for how you can blow off steam in a healthy waywhile still honouring the very sucky circumstances that led you to that point of utter frustration!

Because you can’t expect yourself to just “snap out of it” in the blink of an eye. Most likely, the thing that’s coming up like an explosion for you in those low moments, is something that’s been bothering you for a while.

And so neither distractions nor false positivity can be the remedy.

My approach is to accept – release – and transform.

And I do that in a very practical and doable way.

Listen to the full episode to find out about

  • the recent meltdown in my life that inspired this episode

  • 7 things you can do to accept – release – and consequently transform your frustration!
  • the details of my new offer “Make 2022 Your Year” – a transformational, 1:1 Goal-Getting Coaching Program

3 people have already signed up and availability is limited so give yourself the gift of going after your dreams (writing a book? getting that diploma? starting a business? being awarded “world’s best mom” by your kids? ……………).

Because your dreams, my dear, really matter! 🙂

Episode 45 – Dealing with Fertility Challenges Abroad (with Veronica Santini)

Episode 45 – Dealing with Fertility Challenges Abroad (with Veronica Santini)

empowered expat wife infertility challenges

There is never a good time to experience fertility challenges…

But going through them abroad can make this journey an even more painful, lonely, and isolated one.

My guest today, Veronica Santini, has been there too. Shortly before getting married to her Dutch boyfriend, for whom she had moved to the Netherlands, she received some stirring news: she was diagnosed with premature ovarian insufficiency (or early menopause) at age 32.

In this episode, Veronica opens up about her story and shares:

  • what the hardest part about experiencing fertility challenges abroad was
  • an upside to going through this far away from home
  • her advice for women in a similar situation
  • what’s helped her cope
  • how to find a community of women to feel held and supported

If you are experiencing fertility challenges and unwanted childlessness abroad, we hope you get some nourishment, support, and relief from listening to this episode.

If you have a friend going through this, please pass this episode on to her!

About Veronica

She is a yoga teacher and women’s health mentor for conscious and ambitious women, who are ready to unlock their full potential.

By educating women about their bodies and sharing rituals and holistic knowledge, she helps them connect to their full femine power and reframe womanhood, so they can embody the best version of themselves.

With a decade of experience teaching yoga, 700+ hours of training in multiple yoga styles and countless hours of studies about women’s health, but most of all, as a woman with firsthand experience facing an infertility diagnosis and menopause at age 32, she understands how difficult it is to reclaim your own body and voice in the society we grew up in.

She believes all women deserve to feel confident in their bodies and empowered to live a life in full respect of their female cyclical nature. For this reason, she helps women feel rooted in their bodies, connected to their voice and supported by a community, so that they can be the best version of themselves in any phase of their cycle or life.

Episode 39: How to Successfully Plan, Prep and Pack for Your Next Move

Listen on: iTunes │Spotify Stitcher

You’ve done it before and you’ll do it again: MOVING.

But if you’re like me, the thought of packing boxes doesn’t exactly fill you with joyful anticipation.

Today’s guest will change that: Inés is the founder of Minimalista Moving and shares valuable tips for:

– mentally and practically preparing for your next move

– avoiding stress and overwhelm

– packing boxes

– unpacking and settling in

– moving with children

– and more!

If you have another move ahead – you can’t miss this episode!

PS: This is the final episode of Season 1 as TEEW is going on a little summer hiatus! Happy Holidays!

Meet Inés

Inés is a “citizen of the world” born in Patagonia Argentina. An organiser specialised in home moves with an emphasis on minimalism.

Not because she’s a super organised person, but because she needs space to think clearly and to focus on the things that matter to her.

She has lived in 6 different countries and it was her last move from Barcelona to Gothenburg in Sweden with her family of 4 that made her realise the easier a home move gets when belongings are curated and we start packing early enough. There was less stress and more intention.

Minimalista Moving is all about:

  • Reducing our possessions to those we can pay attention to so there’s no chaos in our homes.
  • Using the home move as an opportunity to start with a clean slate & start living the life we want

Episode 38: 5 Lessons of Your 5 Favorite Episodes

Episode 38: 5 Lessons of Your 5 Favorite Episodes

Season 1 of The Empowered Expat Wife Podcast is coming to an end and I’m so excited and thankful for the tremendous feedback I’ve received!

It’s been a pleasure bringing weekly episodes on “all things expat partner” to you, having inspiring conversations with experts and to provide value to the expat community!

The Podcast will go on a little summer hiatus before coming back with an exciting new spin in the fall (more on this soon)!

But before I switch the mic for a glass of Campari Spritz poolside – let me give you the countdown of the most downloaded episodes:

*Rank 5*

Episode 11: How to Avoid Holiday Burnout and Blues

This episode was released before Christmas but can be just as valuable for the summer time!
I talk about organization hacks, setting boundaries and communication tips to navigate difficult conversations with loved ones, as well as how to practice self-care in the most hectic times.

*Rank 4*

Episode 10: Becoming Financially Empowered with Lisa Mitchell

With her 20+ years of international experience, Lisa is very candid as she talks about what questions Expat Partners should ask and what to look out for when moving abroad!

*Rank 3*

Episode 2: Finding your inner happy place – with Rachael Lynn

I met Rachael online and we immediately connected over our focus on the importance of connecting with ourselves. Listen to the full episode to find out how you, too, can grow deeply connected with yourself and find strength and guidance within.

*Rank 2*

Episode 25: The Empowered Stay-at-Home Expat Mom

This is the episodes I received the most messages and shoutouts for! I know for some of you, taking a step back from work and building a career has been a conscious choice. Yet for others it was a decision made out of a lack of choice upon moving abroad.

Either way, SHMs often duck around when asked “so what do you do?” Or feel that constant pressure that “I should really be doing more than that!” If this resonates – you need to listen to this episode to regain your confidence, see your value and plan your future in the most sensible manner!

And *Rank 1* goes too…

Episode 1: Your Roadmap to a Fulfilled Life Abroad

And I thought it’d be a great moment to remind you of my 4 Pillars of a Fulfilled Life Abroad framework I use with my clients. It’s a practical evaluation tool to see which area in your life needs some special attention and care, some improvement or healing.
Listen to the full episode to figure out which of these pillars you need to work on – and how!

Now I’d love to know… which episode has been your personal favorite? E-mail or message me to let me know!

Episode 37: How to Thrive as a Solo-Parenting Expat Mom – with Rhoda Bangerter

Episode 37: How to Thrive as a Solo-Parenting Expat Mom – with Rhoda Bangerter

Listen on: iTunes │Spotify StitcherYouTube

Did you know that 12% of all expat couples do not live in the same country? Others spend periods of time separated, while again others have one spouse working long hours away from home or traveling. What these families have in common is that the stay-at-home spouse needs to ‘hold the fort’ and parent on their own.

Today’s Podcast guest knows about this all too well and shares her comforting, uplifting and practical advice to thrive in this situation with us!

Meet Rhoda

Rhoda Bangerter is the author of Holding The Fort Abroad and a certified coach for solo parenting moms in long distance marriages

She was raised in France, with a Welsh dad, a Syrian Armenian mum and is married to a Swiss man. Her husband has traveled abroad for work throughout almost their whole marriage. During those years, Rhoda has been solo-parenting and experimenting various ways to hold the fort while creating a joint life in a long distance relationship.

Along the way, she realized the huge number of moms around the world who experience the same challenges but with no resources to guide them through this journey.

In this episode…

Rhoda and I share about our own experiences with solo-parenting. You’ll also find out:

  • What the upsides of solo-parenting are
  • How to navigate the most common difficulties
  • How to take care of yourself – so you can give your all
  • How to re-connect after being separated from your spouse
  • How to involve the absent parent in the family life
  • and so much more

If you are holding the fort abroad while your partner is away, know that you’re not alone. We see you. And we celebrate you!

If you thought Financial Freedom and Independence were concepts far outside your reach, today’s guest Haitham Sadek will make you reconsider!

This episode is a crash course on everything you need to know to start working on creating your own financially independent life!

Meet Haitham

Haitham Sadek wealth heights

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • what financial freedom is and why it’s so important
  • simple investment strategies for different budgets, personality types and ages
  • common myths and misunderstandings about investing
  • the main investment categories
  • how to ensure your own financial security if your husband is the one investing
  • how to shape the future through investments, according to your values
  • and more!

What would you do if money wasn’t an issue?

This question is powerful on so many different levels:

First of all, it’s only when we allow ourselves to dream big that we can get in touch of what we really, really want! (Aside from all the shoulds and can’ts that are so deeply engrained in us!)

Secondly, throughout history women have clearly been underrepresented in the rooms where important decisions were made. The world would possibly look quite differently had this not been the case.

‘What’s important now is to think about what world you want to see in the future? What world do you want to leave behind for future generations? You have a say! We all do.

And investing is one powerful vehicle for making your voice heard. You can reflect your most personal values and priorities in your investment decisions.

This, to me, is probably the most motivating aspect of it all!
